A teenager who played a lead role in a disorder at Star City last year, has been sentenced to 18 months detention.
Seven police officers suffered minor injuries in when two separate disorders broke out at the Birmingham complex on 23 November last year.
A large group of young people were involved in violence on the night, which saw the teenager, who can’t be named for legal reasons, armed with a machete and try to attack a rival teen.
The 15-year-old previously admitted attempted wounding and possession of a bladed article and was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (14 July).
Detective Sgt Sarah Clinton from force CID, said: “This was a violent outbreak which left many families who were trying to enjoy a night out understandably frightened.
“It was a challenging situation due to the number of people involved, and centre security did everything they could to control the situation until officers arrived.
“We take violence of this nature incredibly seriously and it has no place in our community. We can only be thankful no one was more seriously injured.
“I am pleased to see the teenager involved facing time in prison for his actions.”
Akeeb Ali, 19, who was charged with assaulting an officer, has been fined nearly £900 to pay legal fees and compensation to the officer.
A boy and a girl aged 14 have been given four month referral order after admitting a public order offence and assaulting a PC respectively.
A 15-year-old boy charged with assaulting two PCs appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 5 June and has been released on bail to appear at a later date.
The charges were dropped on a 13-year-old girl who was accused of assaulting three PCs.
