Police have named the man tragically killed in a hit-and-run on Washwood Heath Road, Birmingham last Thursday night (30 July).
Andell Goulbourne, aged 59, fondly known as Spring-i, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers were called to reports of a serious collision between a car and his pedal bike at around 11:15pm.
His family have released this statement: “Father of three, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, tragically and horrifically killed last Thursday at the hands of unknown perpetrators.
“Our family and black community are desperately appealing to you to come forward, this was a cruel and heartless act.
“Andell was a kind and generous individual, a mentor to many young people. He always sought to serve those less fortunate, this was reflected in his role as a volunteer charity worker. He was a beacon of light.”
Police believe there were four men in the car at the time of the collision; all four fled the scene.
A man, aged 32, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He’s been released pending further investigation.
The car, a grey BMW M135i registration LG20 MYB, has been seized for forensic analysis.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from our serious collision unit, said: “Fortunately we were able to trace Mr Goulbourne’s family and we now have specialist officers supporting them at what is a very sad and painful time for them.
“Our investigation continues at pace and the arrest was a significant development, however we know more people were in the car and we need to identify and speak to them.
“Mr Goulbourne was callously left in the road fatally injured while these people ran off, I need them to do the right thing and talk to us.
“Equally, anyone who saw anything who hasn’t been in touch should do so, it was a busy evening with lots of people out celebrating Eid.
